Frequently Asked Questions

"I believe every dog—and every owner—deserves access to quality training. My goal isn't just to run a business, but to help more people build better relationships with their dogs. By keeping my rates affordable, I hope to make effective training accessible to more families in our community" - Trainer Abigail

Our training program is intentionally longer than most because we focus on both science and your dog’s well-being. Here's how it breaks down:

  • Adjustment Week: The first week allows your dog time to settle in, feel safe, and get used to our routine. A comfortable dog is a dog that’s ready to learn.

  • Learning Period (21 Days): Research shows it takes about 21 days for a dog to truly learn a new behavior—not just to perform it once, but to understand it reliably.

  • Generalization Week: Dogs need to practice a behavior in 5–7 different situations to truly understand it. We dedicate this final week to helping your dog apply what they’ve learned in a variety of contexts.

This approach ensures your dog isn’t just trained quickly—they’re trained well, with lasting results and a positive experience throughout the process.

Every dog is provided with a personalized training plan designed to meet their unique needs. At Vital K9, we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach; just like people, each dog is distinct. This means that their learning styles vary as well. Our trainer takes your dog's individual personality into consideration to create a training plan that suits their specific way of learning. At Vital K9, we utilize the latest training techniques and are committed to ongoing education, ensuring we offer the most effective and enriching learning environment for dogs.

This is actually one of the main reasons our training programs are structured the way they are. It takes about 21 days for a dog to learn a new behavior and store it in short-term memory. While it takes 4 to 6 months of consistency for that behavior to become a long-term habit

Our trainer is certified through a professional dog training school and is committed to ongoing education. She and our staff regularly attend courses on training, behavior, health, and nutrition to ensure we use the most current and effective methods.

Yes, we offer in-home training sessions for clients who prefer to train their dogs in their own environment. This can be especially helpful for dogs who have difficulty adjusting to new surroundings or who have behavior issues that are specific to their home environment.
